Carol Schram: Another tough test for the Canucks as they open a 3-game series in Toronto The Vancouver Canucks might be glad to have Tyler Toffoli in the rear-view mirror. But they've got another tough test ahead, with three games over the next five nights in Toronto against the Maple Leafs.

Good thing Frankie Corrado is gone , he would open and close the scoring of every game.

If the Canucks do end up firing Benning or Green mid-season, who do you think will get the axe first?

I was listening to this being discussed on the Puck Soup podcast this morning.

I tend to agree with their take that the likely outcome is "neither" — because it's such a strange season, because they won't be wanting to spend extra money to pay someone they've fired, and because anyone they hire would probably need to quarantine for 2 weeks, which would add another layer of complexity.

So, what you're saying is most likely Benning? Weisbrod holds the fort for 2 weeks until the new GM is unveiled in a virtual ceremony. Maybe a Zamboni demolition derby, 50-50 draw or 'coach the Canucks for a game' contest.

I would agree. Also bringing in someone who probably hasn't done a lot of scouting this season. Pittsburgh having trouble or taking their time getting rejected for GM candidates.

Coach Green is up at the end of the season. If they don't feel like Green should come then probably Benning shouldn't be coming back either.

Vasily Podoklzin finishes his KHL game with 15:22 on 21 shifts.

He had one primary assist and led SKA in shots on goal (4) and hits (5).

His team was outshot by a count of 38 to 32 but Podkolzin had positive control of the shot share and a 62.5% (15-9) Corsi for percentage.

i've been on the fire benning wagon for years and years but i'd rather not can him mid-season.

if they are going to make moves, have an exhaustive process at the end of the season (unless there is someone who'll get snapped up quick but that's doubtful.) what's the point in having interim gm? and firing the coach would only be a bandaid.

bring in a new gm who gets to pick the coach. that's how things should work... but this is the canucks we're talking about.

I certainly hope he's faster out there. Guy needs a lot of work to ever play in the NHL

This is the process that makes the most sense. Minivan had a suggestion of Trent Cull in the meantime but not sure if that would be an upgrade. If they are going to change do it properly not knee jerk.

Can't see anything happening with Benning with this odd season year. But, if we go ofer vs the Laffs the call to move on from Green will be massive and we all know with Aquilini something will probably happen. I still think Green is the one that might be pouting a bit and it's filtering down to the players. Not getting a contract offer after last years PO's he's probably pissed.

If they can keep it 5v5 I think we have a chance tonight (and in the series). Canucks tend to do well in the quicker paced less physical games.

3-2 Canucks, Sutter with a pair.

there should be no "in the meantime."

if "they"/frankie wants to make a change, make a change. don't half-ass it with "interims." have a plan that shows you know what you're doing rather than change for the sake of change mid-season.

having said that, if they feel like a change is going to happen at the end of the season, what do you do about the TDL? do you give JB free reign... especially when everyone including him knows his job is in jeopardy?

these are big boy decisions.

JB sure has been getting a lot of bad press lately, something FA loathes. As much as I dislike Weisbrod I could see him being named Interim GM if Benning's let go.

If there is a new GM coming in his job will be pretty easy. GMs are usually given a year to sit back and get a feel for things . Fifteen mil come off the books for them with Beags Rous Luong Recapture and Loui gone . They will also have the main core is also signed.

I definitely think the coaching and staff need to go and am not in a hurry to see Benning go. If he does go oh well.
